We’re proud to announce that we’ve been shortlisted in two categories at the 2022 Yorkshire Post Business in Excellence Awards.
The awards recognise and celebrate the inspirational business people and projects that are bringing employment and investment to our region, and have become one of the most eagerly-anticipated events in the region’s corporate calendar.
Our Founder and Chairman, Kevin McCabe has been named as a finalist in the Business Leader of the Year category for his steadfast and relentless pursuit of growth, transforming SGI from a UK-based real estate developer and investor into a global regeneration and placemaking specialist.
Although delighted to be nominated, Kevin insists the accolade reflects the great team behind him.

“I’m delighted to have been shortlisted in the Business Leader of the Year category alongside some of the region’s most inspiring business people. However, the truth is that a leader is only as good as the people behind him or her and that is something we at Scarborough Group pride ourselves on.
“Everything we do as a business is focused around people – whether that’s providing enduring and sustainable communities where businesses and people can flourish or ensuring that our team is empowered to do their best work.”
Our second nomination is in the Development of the Year category for Thorpe Park Leeds, which is recognised for redefining the playbook for out of town business parks.
Thorpe Park Leeds is an established mixed-use destination located at Junction 46 of the M1, and is already a thriving business location with 900,000 sq ft of workspace employing over 5,500 people.
Phase two, which has been under construction for over six years, is transforming the Park into an entirely new community for East Leeds, in doing so creating one of the Northern Powerhouse’s most successful schemes. This includes the addition of 1.35 million sq ft of development featuring Grade A workspace, a 350,000 sq ft retail and leisure centre (The Springs), 800 new homes and over 150 acres of community parkland.
The nomination comes just a matter of weeks after Thorpe Park Leeds was named Development of the Year at the Insider Media Yorkshire Property Industry Awards.
Kevin added:
“Thorpe Park Leeds is one of SGI’s flagship developments so we’re incredibly proud to have it recognised as such by two of the region’s most respected media outlets.
“More than 20 years ago we set out on our vision to deliver something truly special with Thorpe Park Leeds, and not just with the buildings we created, but with the wider community. As this award nomination demonstrates, we are well on our way to achieving it.”
The winners will be announced at a ceremony at Headingley Stadium on Wednesday 23 November.
