Spread across four buildings on a prominent city centre site immediately adjacent to the mainline train station and bus interchange, Sheffield Digital Campus provides 243,000 sq ft of high-quality, flexible business space (64,955 sq ft of which is currently under speculative construction, due for completion June 2023).
Building one, ‘Electric Works’ was completed in 2009, having been funded at the time by regional development agency, Yorkshire Forward and then subsequently leased to Sheffield City Council as part of its strategy to create a hub for creative and digital businesses in the North of England, catering for everything from small start-ups to larger organisations of 60+ employees.
The 54,000 sq ft building has been awarded many accolades, including the largest helter-skelter in any UK office and the only office building in Sheffield to achieve Wired Score Platinum certification, in recognition of the quality and resilience of its digital infrastructure. Sheffield City Council subsequently purchased the building shortly after completion for £13.5m.
Building two, ‘Ventana House’ was completed in 2010 and its iconic design, featuring a cantilever- structure over the building entrance and external public realm, setting the precedent for future development which continues to draw interest from residents and visitors to the city centre. The 49,500 sq ft building was fully let to four high-profile tenants, including Sky UK and Kennedys Law, and was subsequently sold to Kames Capital in 2015 for £14m within 12-months of the Practical Completion of the building.
Building three, ‘Acero” was completed in 2017 having been privately funded in a 50:50 joint venture between Scarborough and Metro, marking the first time that Singaporean investors had come to the city recognised the strength of the local economy. Having been fully let to co-working provider Spaces, Atkins and Simcyp, setting a new headline rent for the city of Sheffield, the 80,000 sq ft building was sold to APAM in 2018 for £26.6m.
The fourth and final building, ‘Endeavour’ is currently under construction, due to be completed in June 2023 and has recently been let in its entirety to global technology and telecoms company, BT Group.
“Sheffield City Council is committed to ensuring our city not only remains an attractive place to do business but also lessens its impact on the environment. Endeavour will provide the perfect platform for both.”
